COVID-19 Measures

Updated: Mar 04, 2021

1st March 2021

We have implemented level 3 COVID regulations in Auckland following the latest lockdown notice . Like everyone we are hoping this lockdown will only last the 3 days as currently notified.  Our drop-off locations in Wellington and Christchurch are still fully open and you are encouraged to use these facilities if they are convenient for you.

In Auckland, the Lab will still be operating, though non-essential technical staff will now be working from home. We have a contactless drop-off and delivery process in operation at Reception and all devices will be cleansed on arrival and just prior to dispatch. Please note, you will not be able to engage staff directly at Reception - please use the phone. You can also send in your devices by courier and we are recommending that all customers have their data delivered back by courier where possible.

Mar and April, 2020

We have implemented Level 4 COVID regulations. This means that some of our operations have ceased including, any physical contact with the public and each other. Within the constraints provided, we are however still able to communicate with customers by email and phone and we can now do Assessments for items sent to us by Courier (please use NZ Couriers only during this period). Our throughput is however constrained and jobs will likely take longer. For all Essential businesses as defined under the regulations. Such businesses will during this time automatically receive our Prioritised Urgent Recovery Service (see website).

Covid 19

Specific measures (level 4 only):

  1. All devices coming into the Lab for Assessment must be by courier. We are requesting that at this time you only use NZ Couriers and have put specific arrangements in place with them to facilitate our remote working.
  2. All devices received will be “wiped” with antiviral materials on arrival for those parts of the device where they would reasonably be handled (this does not apply to the internal electronics, components).
  3. Similarly, all devices for returned will also being “wiped” before being packaged.
  4. Currently we will not return actual devices to non-essential businesses and individuals until the Level 4 lockdown has ceased. However, where you urgently need particular files that we can recover. We are looking to be able to send these online through links with cloud providers like Dropbox and Google.  Please note, this is only feasible for smaller numbers/sizes of files as the upload/download would simply be too long. But it does mean we can get important time-critical data to you quicker if you need it.  Otherwise we will securely store your data till we can return as we do now, by using an external hard-drive or USB drive and sending by courier.
  5. Customers will no longer be able to visit any of our locations.  We ourselves are operating in isolation from each other and mostly working from home locations.  Public access to the LAB, including Reception and our drop-off locations has ceased.
  6. We have a business continuity plan for all our staff, that sees them working in isolation and with no physical access/proximity to other members of the team.
  7. Essential Businesses as defined in the COVID regulations will automatically have their jobs managed under our Urgent Data Recovery process and at no additional charge.

We would like to thank all clients and stakeholders in DataLAB for their support over this difficult period.  We are all in a very similar boat and by supporting the COVID regulations we hope to be back in full operation  as soon as they get lifted.

We believe these robust measures will allow us to protect our customers, stakeholders and team members during this period.  We will however review our measures weekly and adapt as advice, particularly from the Ministry of Health, changes.   We would like to thank all our clients and other stakeholders for their support of these measures during this period.
